In this week's interview, Mr. Makovsky explained that the current economy, combined with the public's confusion of who to trust online, has consumer confidence in the tank. By having a PR firm consistently manage and monitor this message, companies will eventually build support among consumers.

"The cost of not doing public relations is getting greater," states Mr. Makovsky. "If you don't have an insurance structure set up through public relations you can bring a company down."

Because businesses are using Public Relations firms more than ever, Ken Makovsky sees this as a golden age for Public Relations. In his article for PRSA, he explains seven reasons for these changes, briefly touching on the important points and how they have affected consumer philosophy.
